Teaching colors for toddlers, learning activity with printables

Due to BabyCenter Team, toddlers begin to recognize different colors at age of 18 months. It is true that each baby is different and learn colors in its own way. For example in both nurseries that went our son, they were teaching them colors from about 6 months, they never learned 2 or more colors in a day, the process is to learn a color a day, or a color in a week. As my toddler already knows more or less colors in Catalan language, even in English he knows better the colors than in Russian, I thought that it is a good idea to improve language skills.

I have printed printables of 7 basic colors and some images that would have an association to the color. Then I took some paper and crayons and proposed to my toddler to paint something with each color. While painting we have repeated which color it is and with which images we could associate. It is like playing in a puzzle of colors.

I thought that this learning activity will be an easy one, as I knew he had practised something similar in the nursery, then he watched a lot of youtube videos with colors and theirs associations, but it hasn´t been as easy as appeared. First day he colored the printables, it was fun, but it was a good way to learn. What I have observed? He didn´t paint a red printable with green color, he choose right colors for each printable. Second day he had more enthusiasm about these printables, and asked me to draw him the dog.. and how do you think, which color of crayon he gave me?... the right one... the brown. It was a pleasent surprise as previos day I thought that the idea of learning colors wasn´t a good one, but now I think it just requires time as any other learning activity. Then it was easier and he enjoyed playing with colors and crayons.

In English there are great videos on youtube, that our kid enjoys watching. These are: Colors Songs for Children by Super Simple Songs, and they have an extensive choice of songs for all colors, so check there if you haven´t seen them yet. Our son in this way learned a lot of English words as apart of these videos nobody talks to him in English.

If you want to improve language skills on your toddler as I want, my advise is ¨Keep trying!¨ as every child learns in his own way and own speed. Don´t be too concerned if your child doesn´t know all the colors or less color as other children of his age.

Educational activity - printables with fruits

I found printables almost one month ago on pinterest and I thought that this is a one of the best educational activity for my toddler. Living in another country far from my birth place and far from people who would speak him my mother tongue language, apart of me and my husband, I thought this activity suites perfect in our educative process of our toddler. Before finding out this amazing printables we have bought some books, we have watched youtube videos, always speak to him in Russian, but I felt this is not enough to learn a language. Printables come as a supliment to all other things we do together, and I can firmly say that this is a great way for a toddler to learn another language, even if you born and live in the same country, try to develop language skills of your baby with printables. For sure it will work, as I see really great results with my toddler.

This time I decided to choose FRUITS theme, as he loves fruits, and not just because of that, but also I thought it would be easier to ask him what he prefers to eat. Yesterday was our first day when I showed him them and he began to repeat some of the fruits he ate earlier but didn't know how to call them. Another thing I have observed was, if you show your toddler something regarding food, you need to be prepared to have it, as Damian asked me for fruits on printables and I didn't have them. I felt sorry and for the next time I will try npt to miss this.

Playing with shapes, lovely inside activity for toddlers

As I mentioned previously, looking through pinterest I have found amazing things to do with my toddler, the most that I really liked were printables. I think that after first time playing with alphabet printables with my toddler I understood that this was the right choice for an educational activity, even now, we play with them, and when Damian really wants my attention he takes these printables and show me to play with him. So this time, I decided to make something more complex and make printables with shapes. I printed different shapes and bought pipe cleaners from carrefour, as he enjoys playing with them. It is actually a good fine motor skill, as your kid try to repeat you, and this pipe cleaners are very pleasant to move and make shapes. Damian liked the idea to play with them, but when I stopped doing shapes he didn´t follow the game, so for me it was tricky as I thought to leave him to play further, but no way, I had to stay and invent another game.

How to teach easier alphabet? Printables is a good choice for this educational activity

Printables.... How I even haven't find them before?...but, I'm happy that I find them now.

It is not so easy to teach a child a language living in a multicultural environment, when you come from a bilingual family and the city where you live as well have 2 languages. It is difficult, but who told that this is impossible. I always tried to speak to my child just one language, and to learn with him songs in the same language, watch youtube videos in this language. I have seen a really good progress, but I didn't know that printables can help me so much on our educational path. Last week me and my husband prepared this printables in the alphabet order, as we wanted him to be familiar with the letters and all the words which begin with that letter. This educational activity I think is good way to teach your toddler new words and makes this task easier for mums.

Preparation: dad looked for good quality images on google search, each image have to begin with a letter of the alphabet, then I made a power point slides with images, printed, cut and the printables were ready for use.
